Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University

“When I left Ağrı in 1959 for my education, I could not have imagined that I would be donating a university to this city.”

Formerly known as Ağrı Dağı University, Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University is located in the central district within city limits of Ağrı. The university was Ağrı Education Faculty within Atatürk University before being issued to the university level under the name Ağrı Dağı University due to Law No. 5662, making it one of the 17 universities approved by Ahmet Necdet Sezer on 28 May 2008.
The Rectorate Building of the university, which is founded by İbrahim Çeçen, also the founder of İbrahim Çeçen Foundation, is completed in six months. The university aims to provide education to 10.000 students in the first four years and 20.000 in the second four years. By the end of 2009, the university had 3 faculties, 2 schools, 2 vocational schools and 2 institutions and is continuing its educational activities with 3500 students.

Our university gives importance to our students’ social development as much as their education. Therefore, the total area of 2000 hectares include academic units, 1000 hectares of green area and the following:

 

  • Social facilities,
  • Libraries,
  • Conference and lecture halls,
  • Indoor (640 m²) and Outdoor facilities (5.562 m²),
  • 3 canteens (452 m² total), 1 cafeteria (170 m²), a refectory with a capacity of 400 persons (288 m²) and a staff refectory with a capacity of 130 persons (223 m²).

The university set its objective as contributing to the education and science as well as developing the region in the social, economic and cultural senses.

The total of funds and physical investments of the supporting projects for Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University is approximately 60 million dollars and planned to be implemented between 2008 and 2015.
